Ready to experience Carl Nielsen with tattoos?
Hans Abrahamsen has adapted the great Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 6, and apparently remarked that the work had become “Carl Nielsen with tattoos”. After performing an artistic survey of the symphony, he adapted it for the modern era.
Carl Nielsen has the status as Denmark’s national composer, along the lines of Grieg in Norway and Sibelius in Finland. In addition to his Symphony No. 6 from 1925, tonight’s concert also features Igor Stravinsky’s Concerto in E-flat (subtitled Dumbarton Oaks) from 1937-38 and Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs from 1964.
