BY J. S. BACH
There will be a real festive atmosphere with jubilant hymns as a recurrent theme when the Arctic Philharmonic’s Sinfonietta and the Bodø Cathedral Choir join forces to perform two great works by Johann Sebastian Bach- the Easter Oratorio and Magnificat.
Both works feature Bach's grand-scale
orchestration, with soloists, orchestra and a five-part chorus. The Easter
Oratorio conveys the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection through the Virgin
Mary, Mary Magdalene, Peter and John. Throughout time, composers including
Claudio Monteverdi and Arvo Pärt have been inspired by the Song of Mary.
With its radical and political message, The Song of Mary is about hope and equality and is just as relevant today as it has been throughout history.
Welcome to a beautiful and evocative start to Easter!
