Celebration of Reformation
The Bodø Cathedral Choir and the Arctic Philharmonic’s Sinfonietta invite to a celebration of the Reformation featuring a selection of Bach’s cantatas.
The church in Bodø is marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with events throughout the year. The Arctic Philharmonic will join forces with the Bodø Cathedral Choir to present a beautiful musical experience in the Bodø Cathedral during the Norwegian Psalm Festival.
The three cantatas you will experience at this concert are all based on psalms by Martin Luther. Meine Seel` erhebt den Herren (BWV10) and Mit Fried` und Freud` ich fahr dahin (BWV 125) are Luther’s German translations of Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc dimittis (Song of Simeon). Both are hymns in Luke in the New Testament.
Magnificat is the Virgin Mary’s hymn of praise to the Lord. Nunc dimittis is a narrative in Luke that Simeon can finally die in peace after seeing the baby Jesus.
The third cantata, Ein feste Burg (BWV 80), is the Luther cantata with a capital L! This extroverted and well-known cantata was written to celebrate the Reformation and is a must for this concert programme.
Details about ticket sales will be announced later.
