The concert programmes in Tromsø and Bodø are slightly different:
Tromsø: Before the Piano Concerto, we will an excerpt from Lasse Thoresen’s new composing,The Sound of the Arctic, a commissioned work especially written for the Arctic Philhamronic. The excerpt is called Hymned to to the Untouched. This evening’s concert will conclude with another wonderful classical work, Peter Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony No. 5. Yes, that’s the one with the unbelievably beautiful horn solo in the slow 2nd movement.
Bodø: This evening’s overture in Bodø will be the symphonic poem Asgaardsreien, composed by Hammerfest’s great son Ole Olsen. After the interval, we will perform Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, which the composer entitled ‘The Passionate Symphony’. The music is extremely dramatic and, like Tchaikovsky’s other major works, this symphony has a complex structure of feelings, covering themes such as life, love, disappointment and death.
The Arctic Philharmonic will perform both programmes and more on our comprehensive concert tour of Japan in the coming weeks.
