WITH BENJAMIN SCHMID
Sibelius’ iconic work for violin and symphony orchestra is interpreted by the outstanding Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid.
A Swedish giant of a symphony is currently experiencing a renaissance and one of the most romantic violin concertos is played by a violinist renowned for his versatility and broad repertoire spanning everything from jazz to the likes of Mozart, Schönberg and Korngold. Schmid has performed at some of the world’s top concert halls and has guested leading orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Vienna Philharmonic.
The Arctic Philharmonic and Principal Conductor Christian Lindberg is visiting our "neighbour towns" Lulea (Sweden) and Oulu (Finland) as well Vilnius (Lithuania) with this programme. We are taking works Norway, Sweden and Finland on this tour represented by Edvard Grieg, Allan Pettersson and Jean Sibelius respectively.
Our Principal Conductor Lindberg has worked for several years with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden to record all of Allan Pettersson’s symphonies and the orchestra has won the Swedish Grammy for this. Pettersson’s Symphony No. 7 was the work that gave the Swedish composer his big breakthrough internationally.
