Norwegian and a little Zappa

This will be a brilliant mix where some of Norway’s most important contemporary composers are presented together with the one and only Frank Zappa. There will be chamber works by Hvoslef and Mortensen, and the Wind quintet and trombonist Rasmus will perform our composer profile Jon Øivind Ness’ work “Beak Groove”.

Bodø Sinfonietta’s own flautist Elisabeth Kristensen Eide is this week soloist in Arne Nordheim’s work Tractatus . The work was composed in 1986 for solo flute, deep woodwinds, piano, celesta, harp, percussion and strings. This composition meets in an energetic dialogue filled with contrasts.

During the 2011 Bergen International Festival, TONO’s Edvard prize for composers in the category for contemporary music awarded to the composer Ketil Hvoslef, who the jury characterised as “the marvellous among composers” with his element of surprise and rhythmic inventiveness.
